Tien Giang: Export turnover in the first two months increased 37%

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Tien Giang province, in the first two months of 2017, the export activity of the province has many advantages. Export turnover in February was estimated at $203 million, increasing by 40.9% compared to the same period. Accumulated value of 2 months achieved about $403.5 million, growing 37% in comparison with the same period, reaching 17.2% of the year plan.

Garment is kept as a leading group of exported products of the province.

Of which, the garment group was exported about 11.9 million products with a value of USD90.6 million and increasing by 34.8% in value in comparison with the same period. Exporting of footwear and bags achieved at $81.9 million, $63.1 million, respectively. Exporting of garments, bags and footwear are expected to increase in 2017. Enterprises are increasingly switching their exports by processing to exporting on orders, contributing to the value added of the products.

Aquaculture is also an export item of the province with a tendency to increase in both volume and value, with an export volume estimated at 29,116 tons, worth $54.9 million, increasing by 34.4% in volume and 35.2% in value. Exporting of pangasius in February to major markets such as China, Spain, Russia, Mexico, USA... all increased. At present, there are more than 10 enterprises exporting pangasius, of which, 4 big-sized enterprises holding 60 - 70% of output of raw material. Therefore, enterprises still play the role of controlling of the source of export materials…

The rice-exporting situation of the province in the first two months has been gradually increasing, exported about 18,000 tons of rice, worth USD9.1 million, increasing by 3.6% in volume and 6.3% in value. Exporting rice increased because China has opened quotas on importing Vietnam rice; concurrently, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) has officially allowed 22 Vietnamese enterprises to export rice to China, of which,  two enterprises of Tien Giang province allowed to export rice to this country since January 1st, 2017.

In addition, the export of commodities such as copper tube (estimated at 7,433 tons, valued at $46.9 million), plastic products (estimated at $7.6 million), vegetables and fruits (about 1,000 tons, worth $2.1 million) are both increased in volume and value.

The proportion of export turnover of domestic and foreign-invested enterprises accounts for 43% and 57%, respectively.  As for export markets, the American one accounts for 38.2% (with high import turnover of handbags), the Asian one accounts for 32.6% (mainly import of footwear, seafood, rice and copper tubes) and the EU one accounts for 24.2% (mainly import of footwear, fisheries and garment). The rest ones are Oceania and Africa (mainly import of copper tubes and seafood).
