Go Thanh - Archaeological Relic
Oc Eo - Go Thanh Cultural Relic is about 14 km away from My Tho City, located in Tan Thanh hamlet, Tan Thuan Binh commune, Cho Gao district. Go Thanh Archaeological Relic has the date from IV Century to VII Century AD. This is the remaining relic which is opened for the researches about the culture and society of Phu Nam people. Thanks to this relic, we know about the law of historical and social developments of the South Vietnam with the relations to the Southeast countries in the past.
In 1941, Mr.L.Malleret - French archaeologist was the first person who discovered and excavated Go Thanh Relic and the archaeologists found 3 types of sites: architecture, grave and shelter. At the relic, many valuable statues were found such as Visnu, Nagasa, Nam Than, civilized pieces and many other objects made of gold, copper and ceramics, etc. Until 1987, the excavation results of Go Thanh Archaeological relic were officially recognized to belong to Oc Eo Culture. Go Thanh Archaeological Relic was restored to become an attractive tourism destination to the tourists to visit and study about the culture of Phu Nam Kingdom.
