On the afternoon of May 27, 2020, at the Working Area of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee worked with the Experts Delegation of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on GIZ support activities in Tien Giang. The 12-member expert team led by Dr. Tim McGrath.
The GIZ experts introduced on GIZ's activities related to research on planning work integrated with climate change adaptation and natural disaster prevention and fighting; regional integration issues; logistics issues; the drainage and flood control program to cope with climate change (FPP/ GIZ Program) is being researched by GIZ in some localities in the Mekong Delta region. The GIZ experts also informed on the program and plan to be implemented in the new fiscal year 2021 - 2025 of GIZ, with the worth of 15 million euros, arranged into 03 components, including components of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, etc.
According to GIZ experts, some contents of Tien Giang can coordinate to implement, such as: GIZ will give advises, guides and support the province in planning drainage and flooding, taking into account climate change; advising and supporting the pilot construction of My Tho City to build a model of Sustainable Urban, Drainage Systems (SUDs) in order to minimize temporary inundation caused by heavy rain or high tide; supporting the province to set the price of water drainage service, etc.
At the meeting, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the necessity of the contents set out by GIZ not only for Tien Giang but also for the whole Mekong Delta. He asked GIZ experts to support the province in making Provincial Planning in accordance with the Planning Law; support in urban drainage, logistics, especially effective exploitation of the Cho Gao Canal; build fruit warehouses in proportion to the potential of the province's garden economy; support waste and waste water treatment; study the common mechanism of regional and subregional coordination, etc.
Following the opinion of the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, GIZ experts worked in group to discussion with the departments such as Planning and Investment, Construction, Industry and Trade, Resources and Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development related to the content, scope of research, support activities of GIZ.
