1. Project name:

Expansion of Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve

2. Project's objectives:      

- To form a new tourism zone with beautiful environment and scenery, but still imbued with national cultural identity;

- To combine ecological conservation with tourism development

3. Investment form:

Wholly domestic or foreign owned

4. Project scale:            

Area of land use is 357 ha, which includes the existing conservation area of 107 ha; the expansion area of 250 ha.

Total estimated investment capital: 778,375 billion dongs

5. Grounds to build the project:     

- The planning of tourism development in Tien Giang Province until 2020 with the vision toward 2030.

- Decision No. 1849/1998/QD- UBND dated July 15th, 1998 of the People's Committee of Tien Giang Province on approving the Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve Project.

- Report on the complete project on the Dong Thap Muoi ecological reserve for plants and animals.

6. Project location:            

- Location: Located between the Tay Canal and Lam Nghiep Canal, about 1 km from Thanh Tan Road (District Road 41), in Thanh Tan Commune, Tan Phuoc District.

- Regional links: about 14 km from My Phuoc Townlet, about 25 km from National Highway 1A, about 38 km from My Tho City center to the North and about 90 km from Ho Chi Minh City to the South.

7. Infrastructure at project location            

- Land:

The area of the existing reserve is 107 ha, managed by the State; the expansion area: 250 ha, is being cleared and compensated for by the State.

+ In the area outside the project, a melaleuca forest with area of 1,800 ha is growing and developing well, making it favorable to domesticate and attract birds to nest and habitat.

+ The project area covers a melaleuca forest of 107 ha (clean soil), being surrounded by 4 Canal systems with a total length of 4,130 m. Red dirt roads having been planned for trees planting are situated along the Canals.

+ A 50-m wide closed belt Canal is built in the area equidistant between the 4 Canal systems, turning the tourism zone into an oasis.

+ The soil dugged from the belt Canal is banked outward, making a dyke of over 3-m height to prevent floods, accommodate the water flow and create grounds for the basic construction work outside the area.

- Transport infrastructure:

+ About road: the asphalt road connecting National Highway 1A and the tourism zone is being completed.

+ About waterway: the tourism zone can be accessed by boat from many directions.

8. Investment incentives conditions           

- Investment incentives:

+ The project is situated in a region with harsh socio-economic conditions. Incentives on land rent, exemption and reduction of land use fees, exemption of land or water surface rent, financial obligations for land to be fulfilled under the current regulations of the State.

 Incentives on tax rates, exemption of enterprise income tax; export tax, import tax; value added tax to be complied with under the provisions of the current tax legislation.

9. Social effects of the project:

- Preserving the ecosystems which are the lungs of the area and tourism development.

- Creating jobs, raising incomes for the local residents, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province.
